Erin Keller
“I sang in a children’s choir growing up, and it was hugely transformational to me. I believe every child deserves the opportunity to sing in a choir.”
Erin’s VISION
“My vision is that every child has the opportunity to sing in a children’s choir. The rehearsal room should be a safe space to cultivate intellect, foster creativity, develop physical and social awareness, promote community building and service to others, hone problem solving and critical thinking skills, engage in authentic cultural learning, and build confidence—all through the beautiful and transformative power of singing in a children’s choir.”
About ERIN
Erin Keller was a consummate professional musician and educator with a Bachelor’s Degree in Voice Performance from UMKC and a Master’s Degree in Music Education with a Minor in Ethnomusicology from the University of Colorado. Over the course of 17 years, she taught students ages 5-65 myriad musical skills. She was passionate about sharing music with all people.
Erin was skilled at meeting students wherever they are in their development, using customized lesson plans to motivate and challenge her students in creative and positive ways. She taught them how to learn, not just how to sing. And with her extensive performing experience, she took her students to the top levels of aesthetic expression and precision.
Creating Golden Spirit Children’s Choir was a dream many years in the making. Erin saw a need in the community, and she was determined to do what it takes to make sure every child in Kansas City has a chance to sing and be heard.
Erin fought a long and brave battle with colon cancer, entering end-of-life care in June 2025. She died on July 3, 2025, just shy of her 45th birthday. She is greatly missed, but her dedicated vision and passion for music education inspire us every day. We honor her legacy by continuing the important work she started.
